About The Event

Come and enjoy spring in North Carolina by attending one of the oldest festivals in Western North Carolina, Mayfest in downtown Rutherfordton!

The morning kicks off with the 2018 Gears and Gables ride to benefit Rutherford Housing Partnership, a local nonprofit that helps make much needed repairs to the homes of low-income families. The race starts at 8:00 am and provides both recreational and professional cyclists with a 24-mile, 49-mile and 62-mile option. Additional information and applications are available at

Next, Mayfest takes over the streets of downtown Rutherfordton with your favorite festival food, local craft brews, climbing walls, inflatables, balloon artist, face painting. Artists and craftsmen showcase their unique one-of-a-kind merchandise while live music, flavorful scents and children’s giggles fill the air. Our local Boy Scouts will host their annual Scout Show & Pinewood Derby Race while entertaining festival- goers with interactive booths and Scouts in Indian regalia. Mayfest will have a wide selection of festival food favorites such as funnel cakes, homemade lemon and limeade, fried turkey legs, roasted corn on the cob and many new food offerings.

The Main Stage comes to life at 11:00 am with Jack Roper and the Weatherman Band followed by Citizen Mojo at 3:00 pm. Saturday also happens to be Cinco de Mayo . To celebrate you will see colorful flamingo dancers on and around the music stage and the Adaville Baptist Youth Group will entertain us with a collection of contemporary music.

Continue your celebration of Cinco de Mayo at Mi Pueblito, a local favorite, with colorful entrees, cool margaritas and creamy desserts. Door prizes, drink specials and live entertainment accent their authentic Mexican cuisine and small town friendly service.
